These poems are very good battle poetry in some ways. Versification and perspicuity are exceptional. However, they are nothing like Chaucer, for instance, because they are very interested in the leaders of the various conflicts and patriotism, where there is actually very little on any of the battles themselves, There are some intriguing references to not hurting innocent people. I suppose this poetry must have seemed rather seminal for the mid-14th century, but it is a style which did not become popular. This is good poetry for the amateur specialist, but probably not attractive to the general audience.
