I saw several reviews complaining that they did teach you how to write in more fonts that there was only about four and while there are (I counted) 5 fonts and 1 set of numbers that have trace and practice pages. It also shows layouts how to stretch your font and if you read it the author really pushes you to create your own by branching off of what is essentially hand fed to youIt also shows a handful of DIY ideas to incorporate your new found skills
I got this so I could learn hand lettering, having bad handwriting myself and not being very artistic. This book has been one of my 2 favorites. A good combination of practice pages, how-to's and ideas. Beautiful book and I'm so happy I bought it.
Beautiful book with a focus on five different unique fonts, along with advise on styling, and design inspiration. The book is devised into four sections: Lettering Basics, Drawing Words, Adding Color and Detail, and Projects. I have a library of design books containing multiple books on hand lettering. This book is a nice balance of instruction and “workbookâ€, providing some of each. It has been a great addition to my collection, which I reference regularly for inspiration.A piece of advise to reviewers who are dissatisfied:You’re not going to find a single book that teaches you design or lettering. It is a learned skill that you must develop over time. A good reference book is going to be the author’s best portfolio examples, advise, and tips. In order to learn to produce creative work on a professional level it takes exposure to a variety of other people’s work which must be developed into your own style and practiced over years. This creative process is really what design is all about.

Best book ever, comes with different styles and ways to learn, teaches you the basic and walk you through the most amazing and professional hand lettering . Show you how to implement in words as well as how to do letter by letter ! It's an amazing book . You won't regret it at all!! Highly recommend
Good book but perhaps not detailed enough for a beginner like me. Need more instruction on how to form the letters and direction of pen.
I love this book! It's a great introduction to hand lettering techniques. The book starts with supply lists and a bit of vocabulary and goes through several lettering styles, adding color, and embellishments. The last chapter presents some project ideas. There is also plenty of advice on developing your own styles. And though it might be a minor thing, it gets bonus points for presentation. Just a beautiful book.If I have one complaint it's that there aren't more full alphabets presented. But don't let that be a deal breaker. There's plenty of other inspiration here.
If you want to learn how to make letters better (i.e., for a journal, bulletin board, personal note), you will like this book. The directions are easy, and you can learn at your own pace. The book includes plenty of practice pages. It will not teach you calligraphy.
Love this book. This book is beautiful and offers lots of practice tips and explanations of typography and script. I recommend this book for the beginner or anyone who would like to brush up or have a pretty book on hand to keep practicing with.
